I grew up in Chicago and in Los Angeles. My parents moved the family to Los Angeles when I was in third grade. We continued to spend the summers in Chicago and most of my family still live there so I feel like I grew up in both places.
2. How long have you been with Village Coach Fitness and why did you start?
I first came to Village Coach Fitness in June of 2014. My friend, Kelly Powell, found out about the Teacher Boot camp so we both signed up to participate. I didn’t finish both sessions of Boot camp that summer because I wasn’t ready to commit to improving my health. However, once I returned to Teacher Boot camp in June of 2015, I was fully ready to do what needed to be done to lose weight and improve my life and I have been coming 4 days per week ever since!
3. What kinds of results have you achieved so far?
My results have been amazing! I have lost about 50 pounds, my waist is much smaller, but my muscles are larger. I’m especially proud of the definition that I have developed in my arms because of the weight training. People that haven’t seen me in a while cannot believe how different I look and there are times when I can’t believe it either. The health benefits have been tremendous as well as my blood pressure and cholesterol have both gone down since I’ve become more fit.
4. What is your favorite Village Coach Fitness Exercise?
Surprisingly enough, my favorite Village Coach exercise is the kettle bell swing. The first time I swung a kettle bell, I had no idea what I was doing and I felt like a failure. But Coach Fatimat taught me how to swing it properly and use my core more than my arms and now I look forward to swinging a kettle bell.
5. What is your least favorite Village Coach Fitness Exercise?
I HATE burpees! I know they are probably great for me because they tone all parts of the body but I feel uncoordinated getting myself up and down repeatedly and they require so much stamina! I wouldn’t mind at all if I never had to do enough burpee as long as I live.
I enjoy bowling, cooking, and shopping!
I am a Fantasy Football fanatic and participate in three Fantasy Football Leagues.
8. What is your favorite music to listen to when working out?
I have an eclectic music collection, but my favorite music for working out is rap.
9. What is your dream vacation?
I would love to cruise the Hawaiian islands. Jay and I went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and a few years later we took a Caribbean cruise. I loved both of those trips and combining them into a cruise of the Hawaiian islands would be my dream vacation.
10. What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?
If you’re not sure about making a change, I’d say come to Village Coach Fitness and see how awesome the classes are! All of us are ordinary people from the community who want to be healthier and we support each other in achieving our goals. Getting in shape can be done in manageable steps that include good nutrition and strength training. A year and a half ago I couldn’t run very far, lift very much, or do even a few burpees. However, as the days and weeks passed, Coach encouraged me to do more and she monitored my progress. Coach Fatimat knew what I could handle better than I did and she helped me get stronger and stronger without hurting myself or being foolish.
Once you start meeting your goals, you’ll feel so good about yourself and keep on going!
