We're so excited to share with you the personal story about this months' spotlight member of our tribe, Cindy Stolfus. We love having her as apart of our tribe, her dedication with living a healthier lifestyle is encouraging! Here is our January 2018 Spotlight Tribe Member: Self-driven, resilient, and kind; Cindy Stolfus!

Cindy's Story:

"I was born in Modesto, CA. I have one older brother and my family still lives in that area of central California. I lived in Modesto through high school, coming to Riverside in 1987 to attend California Baptist University. I loved the Psychology and Sociology classes and ended up majoring in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Work.  After I graduated I had difficulty finding a job in Social Work and ended up taking a job teaching in an elementary school.  I realized I really liked it and was still helping people! I went back to school and got my credential soon after. I taught 5th grade for a few years and then taught 6th grade for six years. During those years teaching, I met my husband, Robert, and got married. When we decided to start a family, I was blessed to be able to stay at home during their early years. We have two sons, Micah (17) and Campbell (15). I still work at the same school I started at out of college.  I have been at Woodcrest Christian Day School for over 25 years.  During the time I was home with my boys I went back to school and got a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. When I  returned to work full time I became the Vice Principal. I love my job because I work with great kids, families and co-workers."

Did you play Sports Growing up?

"I didn't play sports growing up or even really like to watch sports!"

What is your motivation to work out/How did you decide to start your fitness career?

"I would say I started my love of fitness in high school. I took an aerobics class and thought, Wow! This is so much better than playing a sport! I loved the music and remember our final exam was to make up our own routine. (It was the 80s! What's not to love about the music and the outfits!)I continued to go to aerobics classes in college and after college joined The Tournament House for their step classes. (Aerobics with a step!) After the kids were born, I would walk in the neighborhood with the stroller. Pretty soon I started to run with the stroller and before I knew it I was running regularly.

Not something I set out to do but just wanted to lose the baby weight. Once I got up to 3 miles, I began to look for a race to participate in. I was thinking a 5K since I had never done a race before. I saw on Facebook a friend was doing a half marathon and looking for others to run also. I honestly don't know what made me say yes, but I signed up. I did my first Half Marathon the year I turned 40!  I was slow, but I finished!  I have since completed a total of 9 half marathons, a few 10Ks and many 5Ks."

How does working out make you feel?

"I joined the Village because I wasn't feeling as motivated to run after my running partner moved away. It is hard for me to stay motivated when I am working out alone. I love the Village because you don't work out alone. There are a wonderful group of encouraging women to spur me on as well as the amazing coaches who kick my butt! I love the way I feel when I have finished a hard workout. I feel strong and accomplished. I also love it when I don't think I can do something, but I am challenged by the coaches to "dig deeper" and I find out I can do it!"

What are your goals?

"My goals are to keep up with my teenagers! I encouraged them to run at an early age and ran their first 5K with them. Now they run circles around me and challenge me!  I also would like to stay fit as I get older. I realize that working out and eating right are going to help me reach those goals."

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

"In the past I struggled with keeping up with the workouts in the evenings since I taxi the boys around to all their activities. But this last year I have done so much better. I never thought I would be able to do the 5:15 a.m. workouts! But a year ago December I gave it a try and I love it!  I have to plan ahead to do it by ironing my clothes for work, making my lunch and laying out my work out clothes the night before.  But then, there is no excuse and nothing else on my calendar at that time of the morning!"

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

"The Village is more than just a place to work out!  It is personal and that's what makes it better than the place down the street. The coaches really care about you. They get to know you and adjust the workouts if needed to their clients. They always have time to listen and have often checked on me when I had an injury or pulled muscle. But they also don't take it easy on you either. They challenge you and push you to be better!"

What kind of milestones have you accomplished & what were the results?

"I continue to work towards my ideal weight. Even though I haven't achieved it yet, I have made progress. One of the biggest changes that I see is the change in my eating habits. I have learned a great deal about nutrition and with the eating plans we receive I have been more conscious of what I buy and the meals I make. I have tried many new foods and ingredients and my family has too!"

We're so excited to share with you the personal story about this months' spotlight member of our tribe, Alda Aguirre. We love having her as apart of our tribe, her dedication with living a healthier lifestyle is encouraging! Here is our December 2017 Spotlight Tribe Member: Compassionate, Intuitive, and Gracious; Alda Aguirre!

Alda's Story:

" I was born and raised in San Bernardino, Ca. When I was 17, I started working for the State of California in one of the workers’ compensation insurance legal offices. I majored in English at Cal State Fullerton and then went to Pacific Coast University School of Law where I graduated with a Juris Doctor. While I went to school, I continued to work for the State, moving up from the mailroom to legal secretary, then becoming a trainer that allowed me to travel throughout the state. I eventually became an underwriter for the State, writing workers’ compensation policies for large companies. I enjoyed what I did but did not feel like what I was doing was making a difference. After 17 years of being in the Insurance Industry, I decided to make a change and I transferred to Social Services for the State of California. At first, I conducted inspections and monitored daycare centers and homes but found that investigating incidents was what I enjoyed the most. I am a Complaint Specialist for Community Care Licensing for the State of California. I investigate incidents and complaints of daycare. I find it rewarding to ensure the health and safety of children in care at the facilities that provide care to the children of working parents.

At the end of the day I come home to a loving husband, who is very supportive of my career. We have a 14-year-old son who keeps us busy. Most of our family time is spent at the gym, supporting my husband coaching and my son playing basketball. We have two beautiful dogs, Iggy and Bailey who keep us busy when we are home."

Did you Play Sports Growing up?

"As a child I was a fast runner however my parents’ traditional beliefs were that sports were for boys and dancing was for girls so I grew up dancing. I was a Hawaiian Dancer for 5 years and then a Folkloric Mexican Dancer for 4 years. Some of those years I danced both and we performed at fairs and participated in parades."

What is Your Motivation to Workout?

"My motivation to work out is that I want to be healthy. In 2016, I realized that I was unhealthy and unhappy, I was broken… June 24, 2010, my father, was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia). He was an amazing athlete, and he never got sick! We fought, we fought hard, but lost the fight on November 2, 2010. When I lost my dad when he was only 66, I never saw it coming. I was a daddy’s girl and he was my best friend. After losing my dad, I changed. I was very guarded and sad. Even when I was happy, I was sad. Rather than deal with my pain, I focused on taking care of my family, doing for others, but ignoring myself and my needs. Eventually, who I saw in the mirror was not me."

How Did You Decide to Start Your Fitness Career?

" On the 6th year anniversary of my father’s diagnosis, I was at a basketball game attending a game my husband was coaching and Coach Fatimat was there. I had only met her once before that, but instantly felt a connection to her. I’m not sure how I got the courage, but I walked up to her and told her that I needed help. Coach Fatimat reached out and grabbed my arm and told me to come see her at the Village. The first time I met her was like a therapy session, I unloaded a lot of the emotional baggage I had been carrying for 6 years. Coach made me feel welcome and eased me into eating well, cooking healthy delicious meals, and taking care of my body.

Now, what keeps me motivated is my family and the Village. If I am having a stressful day at work or when I get sad missing my dad, I sign up for an extra class, choose a heavier weight to lift, or I sign up for another run. These are the things that now bring me peace and joy. "

How Does Working Out Make You Feel?

" Working out makes me feel energized and strong. I feel like when I am at the Village this is 'me time' and it is my opportunity to focus on my body and my health. I drive 20-30 minutes each way to work out. During my drive, I do not talk on the phone, or text. I use my drive to relax and get into my work out mode. During my workouts I have to focus on every part of my body, that I am using, so I can’t think about work, groceries, or what’s for dinner. When I am done with my workout, I feel relieved, relaxed, and ready to take on my day. "

What Are Your Goals?

" My goals are to lose weight and get stronger. Although I would like to see a much smaller number on the scale, my goal is actually to look and feel strong and healthy. I would like to see definition in my arms and legs, and a much smaller mid-section. I also would like to feel good about the meals I cook for my family, I want to learn to appreciate and enjoy the healthy meals as much as I do the cheat meals. I have daily struggles with eating the proper amounts of food and because most my time with family involves gatherings with lots of food, making the right choices are challenging."

What Do You Do To Ensure Time For Your Workouts?

" In order to make sure that I have time for my workouts, I have given up my weekday late night binge TV watching. I work out first thing in the morning so I wake up 1 hour before class, no snooze on workout days! That means I have to go to bed early, my family knows, Mama has to be in bed around 9:00 p.m. and asleep by 10:00 p.m. I schedule 30 minutes of time to get ready in the morning and I am out the door by 4:30 a.m. which allows me 30-45 minutes of drive time. Working out first thing in the morning allows me the opportunity to take care of me before my family even wakes up. "

What Would You Say to Someone On The Fence About Joining The Village?

" For anybody who is on the fence about joining, I say, 'come in and meet our Coaches'. Open your heart and open your mind. This is not a diet program and there are no gimmicks. Joining VCF is not a membership or a club, it is about allowing others to help you make a commitment to yourself to be healthier. "

What Type of Milestone Have You Accomplished Since Joining The Village?

" My biggest milestones were running and completing Coaches Kettlebell Challenge. When I started working out at VCF, I had never done a snatch or a swing. Now, I am able to snatch two kettlebells at once! I have also been able to run two 5ks, two 10ks, and one 15k with my fellow tribe members joining the runs!"

We're so excited to share with you the personal story about this months' spotlight member of our tribe, Alicia Loc. We love having her as apart of our tribe, her dedication with living a healthier lifestyle is encouraging! Here is our November 2017 Spotlight Tribe Member: Admiring, Ambitious, and Strong; Alicia Loc!

Alicia's Story:

"I was born in Guatemala and moved to the United States in my early 20s. I have 3 children and 3 grandkids. They are my reason for everything I do. My mother and brothers live in Albuquerque, NM. My dad went to be with the Lord a few years ago. I work for Ross Distribution Centers and oversee their West Coast Training Department. I have been working for them for over 10 years. I also worked for Disney for 20 years, in the training and development field as well. Yes, leaving ‘Mickey’ was a hard decision to make but the right one."

Did you play sports growing up?

"In Guatemala, I was on my school’s basketball and swimming teams. I also played the drums in our marching band…wow, I had forgotten about that. I loved playing drums. I think I was good at it but not so much at sports…but I certainly tried."

How did you first decide to start your fitness career?

"I have been a gym member for years. At one point I belonged to 3 gyms at the same time because of how much traveling I was doing for work and wanted to always have one available in the city I was in. I wasn’t seeing the results I wanted but I kept going anyways. I always found myself working out alone and not really knowing what the right thing to do was, but something is better than nothing and that kept me going."

How does working out make you feel?

"Working out makes me feel good and gives me a sense of accomplishment."

What are your fitness goals & how will you work towards them?

"The older I get, the more I need it and I can’t think of being without it. I would hurt myself more in the long run. My goal is to continue to attend bootcamp at least 3 times a week and if for whatever reason I don’t make it, I am committed to not making myself feel guilty about it but just re-focusing and continuing when I can. Guilt trips don’t help you get there."

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

"Now that I moved, I work out in the evenings vs. mornings, I make sure that I have everything I need with me before I leave home and also make sure that I don’t get ‘stuck’ in any meetings late in the day that will force me to cancel my class. Even when I’ve had long days and I don’t feel the energy, I commit to going because I know it will make me feel that much better afterwards. It never fails."

What kind of milestones have you accomplished & what were the results?

"This year I was able to run my very first 5K, Chocolate Run in San Diego…ouch, I still remember those hills!!! Since then, I have ran 3 more times. I never thought I would be able to do anything like that. Huge accomplishment for me. I have lost over 15 lbs and I’m working on toning and building strong muscles vs. losing weight."

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

"I would tell them to get off the fence and get on the Village side 'pronto!’ They will have no regrets. I talked my sister-in-law Maria and my niece Tatiana into joining with me and they got hooked on day one! They have thanked me for ‘influencing’ their decision. They have seen great results. Those two ladies are looking better and better every day. But it is not just about how you look but also how you feel and how you learn to make the right choices that will impact you the rest of your life. I cancelled my membership for the other 3 gyms I used to go to and only come to The Village now and I have seen much more results in one year here than I’ve seen in my entire life. Thank you to my great coaches!!!

We're so excited to share with you the personal story about this  months' spotlight member of our tribe, Claudette Norris. We love having her as apart of our tribe, her dedication with living a healthier lifestyle is encouraging! Here is our October 2017 Spotlight Tribe Member: Enthusiastic, Commited, and Gracious; Claudette Norris!

Claudette's Story:

"I was born on April 25th, 1953 in Sarasoto, Florida. As of August 31st, 2015 with thirty five wonderful years of service I retired from GTE/Verizon. I have been married to my precious husband David for thirty five years and we have two amazing adult daughters Raisha of Moreno Valley, CA and Alexandra Ellis of Lewisville, TX. I have two wonderful son-in-laws named Alban and Brian. I am a blessed woman. "

What are some of your interests?

"Hobbies...hum where do I start? I am a retail therapist, which means I enjoy shopping! I find it both relaxing and rewarding. My husband and I can be found annually at most of the local jazz concerts. It is a fun time to reconnect with fellow jazz fans and of course meet new people.  I met fellow tribe member Tracie Radford at the Newport Jazz Festival."

"Aside from jazz, I am also a Deer Creek Red Hatter, and am involved in the Circle of Friends. This is a book club located in Moreno Valley, CA. I volunteer monthly in the Youth Ministry at my church Vine Life Christian Fellowship located in Riverside, CA. Lastly, I am a life member of the National Council of Negro Women in Moreno Valley, CA. As you can see, I love being active and assist whenever needed!"

Did you play any sports growing up?

"Growing up I was not very good at sports. I was usually the last one to be picked for a team. "

What is your motivation to workout?

"My motivation to workout are the long term benefits. I have always been active in something such as Walking 101, Cardio, and Zumba. However, Bootcamp at the Village Coach Fitness is where I believe I have found my niche!"

How does working out make you feel?

"Working out makes me feel in control of my weight and health. No excuses. Just do it! Find what works for YOU and go out and do it."

What are your goals?

"My goals are to continue with VCF and release (not lose, because I don't want to find them again) 10 to 15 more pounds."

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

"I find time for my workouts by designating the right and realistic time that works for me."

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

"My advice to everyone is to find what works for YOU. Do it, make it apart of your everyday life and expect to see the results. Faith without work is dead. James 2:14"

What milestones have you accomplished?

"Lastly, my milestone has been that I truly found my niche. It is important to do YOU because "everyone else is taken". As a result of finding what works best for me, I have been wearing more white clothing than ever before...YEAH!!"

We LOVE you Claudette! We're so grateful to have you apart of our village Tribe! Thank you for sharing your story with us all.

We're so exited to share with you the personal story about this months' spotlight member of our tribe, Tracie Radford. We love having her as apart of our tribe, her consistence with living a healthier and better lifestyle is contagious! Here is our September 2017 Spotlight Member: Motivated, Determined, Persevered; Tracie Radford!

Tracie's Story:

" I was born in Los Angeles, California and was raised primarily in Compton California. I'm the youngest of 8. I married my childhood sweet heart Willie Radford Jr. in 1987. We will celebrate 30 years of marriage this November. We have two sons, Quenton Radford (23) and Willie Radford III (24) which I'm very proud of, Willie III is a first year law student and Quenton is a Software Engineer."

What is your passion?

" I'm a 25 year business owner of Make It Happen Hair Loss Clinic and Salon in Riverside, Ca. I've ALWAYS loved doing hair. Making people look good and feel better. I come from a family of stylist. My grandmother was one and my sister is a Cosmetologist. I also taught at Riverside Community College in the Cosmetology Department for over 6 years. I've been doing hair for a very long time and 4 years ago I added the hair loss specialty component to my business after searching for help for a client that began loosing her hair and not being able to find help for her. I trained under one of the leaders in the hair loss industry, David Salinger out of Sydney, Australia and opened up my clinic in hopes to help men, women and children with their hair loss or scalp problems. I thank God I've been able to help many regrow their hair and clear up scalp problems."

What do you do on your free time?

"I absolutely love spending time with my family and close friends. I have a large family; 7 siblings, 23 nieces and nephews, 30 great nieces and nephews and 5 great great nieces and nephews! We get together often. In the summer we get together monthly for Soul Food Sunday. We rotate to each other's homes enjoy good food, play games and have great fellowship. Most every year we have our annual Christmas Dinner most years my husband and I have been blessed to host it. I just love the smell of good food in the air and hearing the noise of the children laughing and playing. We all talk loud LOL so there are many conversations happening and lots of love being spread throughout our home. In my spare time I like to read, vacation, camp and go to the beach."

What is your motivation to work out and how did you start your fitness career?

"My motivation for working out is to live a long healthy life. I started this journey about a year ago when a friend invited me to be a part of the LBD challenge. Like I said I love hanging out with my close friends so when my sister friend Nicky asked me to do this with her I said ok let's do it. I'd already started eating better and lost 5 lbs mostly because I knew I was getting older, my body was changing, menopause was getting the best of me and I was the heaviest I'd ever been. I'd never worn clothes in double digits before. I had clothes in my closet ranging from size 4-10. It was time for me to get healthy. I'd always liked walking and did so regularly and ate fairly healthy but it was no longer enough to keep up with the changes my body was experiencing due to menopause so I knew I had to do something different. After the challenge I decided to continue working out at least 3 times a week which I do most weeks. I continue to eat healthy for the most part. Snacking is my weakness which I do give into sometimes but the good thing is I know how to get back on track when I fall off the wagon LOL"

How does working out make you feel?

"I feel great! I've lost a total of 25 pounds. I go up or down 5 pounds here and there but I don't beat myself up about it. When needed, I detox and get back on track. My goal is to continue working out 3 times a week, to eat lots of fruits and vegetables along with chicken, fish or turkey. I'm not big on eating red meat. Drink lots of water and stay away from all the sugary snacks."

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the village?

"For anyone that's on the fence about joining the village I'd say give it a try! It's more than just working-out it's a group that cares for one another, holds each other accountable we do fun events together like 5k runs or family workout days or supporting the community food drive. Maybe do a trial and see how you like it before making a long term commitment. Our upcoming Little Black Dress challenge would be ideal for trying out the Village. I'm thankful for reaching my weight goal more than loosing the weight I feel so much better."

We LOVE you Tracie! We're so grateful to have you apart of our Village Tribe. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us.

Jenilee’s Story:

“I was born and raised in Torrance, Ca. I attended Catholic school up until college, where I attended UC Riverside. I have a dual teaching credential in general ed and Special Ed (mild to moderate). This will be my 12th year teaching for Val Verde USD in an SDC class at March Middle School. My best friends from high school introduced me to my husband, Mike, and we just celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. We have 2 kids, Michael (3) and Harper (3 months).”

Did you play sports growing up?

“I played basketball in elementary school and tennis in high school. Whether I was good or not is another story!”

What is your motivation to work out & how did you decide to start your fitness career?

“I started attending bootcamp in preparation for my wedding and fell in love with Coach Fatimat and her program. I continued with bootcamp, knowing we wanted to eventually start having a family. When I was pregnant with both kids, Coach Fatimat continued to work with me and modified my workouts according to how far along I was in my pregnancies. I am continuously motivated to eventually get back to my pre pregnancy weight.”

How does working out make you feel?

“I am going to be honest….I am not jumping up for joy at the thought of working out every time, but once I do it, I always feel stronger and better about myself. Plus, working out with all the wonderful women is always a ton of fun too!”

What are your goals?

“Originally my goal was to look good in a wedding dress, then it changed to having healthy pregnancies and healthy babies, now it is to keep up with my kids and be healthy and happy for my family.”

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workout?

“I am a planner and hate to make changes to plans last minute. So, I always schedule and book my workouts for the whole month, so my husband knows when he has to get home early from work to watch the kids, what days I need to make dinner and when not to have after school meetings. Once I am committed to a schedule, I stick with it unless there is an emergency.”

What kind of milestones have you accomplished & what were the results?

“I think the greatest milestones I have personally accomplished is my recovery process through both pregnancies. Coach Fatimat always emphasized during my workouts how easy it would be for me to recover if I continued to exercise while I was pregnant and she was right. I had c-sections for both births and was walking the same day and even got discharged from the hospital early with my last pregnancy. I couldn’t wait to come back to attend bootcamp classes again!”

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

“I would say ‘once you attend a day of bootcamp, you would love it.’ But you also have to stay committed. Not only would a person love the workouts, but they would love how committed the coaches are to keeping you motivated. Plus, everyone who attends are people who love to have fun and also support and motivate each other.”

We are so excited to share the personal story about this months’ member! We love having her as part of our tribe as she is such an inspiration to all members and coaches! Here is our June 2017 Tribe member Spotlight: spirited, enthusiastic, persevering Dr. Piali Dattaray!

Piali’s Story:

“I was born in Los Angeles, but spent most of my life in Moreno Valley.  I graduated from Valley View High School, UC Riverside, and finished medical school and residency at Loma Linda University.  My husband and I moved to Honolulu and then to Northern California after I completed my residency.  We moved back to Riverside in 2013.   I am currently an Otolaryngologist-Head and Neck Surgeon with Riverside Medical Clinic and am a mother of two children, ages 5 and 3.”

What are your goals?

“I strive to stay a healthy, happy, loving and active member of my family.   I aim to remain intellectually and physically agile so that I can have a long career in service to my patients as a surgeon. I am genetically predisposed to heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and multiple types of cancer, so I hope to ward those off for as long as I can with healthy habits. I just recently achieved my goal of running my first half marathon and I’m hooked.  I’m trying to figure out new races to run in the Fall.”

What is your motivation to work out?

“My main motivation to work out is to have the energy, strength, and mobility to meet the demands of being a mom and my work.”

How does working out make you feel?

“Working out allows me to start each day with a sense of accomplishment, energizes me, and serves as an outlet for stress.”

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

“Planning and family support is what makes it possible for me to workout.  I am grateful that my husband supports me by understanding my need for an early bedtime and being at home with the kids during my 5:15 a.m. workouts.  When he travels for work, I am fortunate my mom will help me with my kids. I have to prepare the night before so I can dress and escape quietly in the dark to make it to class on time. The early morning workout time allows me to get my exercise in before the early start time of my operating schedule.  Once I am at work, the day can get unpredictable so morning class times before work has been key for me.  It took about a month for me to completely change my wake/sleep rhythm to make myself a morning workout person, but this change has really improved my mood at the start of each day and has made the breakfast-getting-the-kids-dressed-and-out-of-the-house-rush less rushed.  The app used to schedule classes at Village Coach Fitness is very helpful at putting it on my calendar with an alarm.”

Did you play sports growing up?

“I did not participate in many sports when I was younger, mainly because the focus was on excelling in academics and my participation in sports was erroneously looked at as a distraction.  There was a phase during when I was very engaged in developing my yoga practice.  I have attended many group aerobics classes, but otherwise have not been too loyal to a gym until joining Village Coach Fitness.”

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the village?

“I would remind them that they deserve it.  They deserve coaches that are knowledgeable, motivating, and considerate enough to help them achieve their goals efficiently and without injury.  They deserve a Village that will be positive and supportive during their journey to better fitness.  They deserve to take time for themselves, dedicated to their health.  Coach Fatimat herself is an inspirational figure and valuable resource.  It is a unique opportunity to work with such an accomplished athlete.”

We are so excited to share the personal story about this months’ member! We love having her as part of our tribe and we hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit more! Here is our June 2016 Tribe Member Spotlight:  Mother, Wife, Teacher Colleen Kiemele!

Give us a little history about yourself. Where were you born? Did you play sports growing up?

I was born in Santa Ana, California and moved to Riverside when I was three. My parents still live in the same house that we moved into.  I have one younger sister who is three years younger than me.

Family Business!! My mom was a middle school PE teacher and my dad was an upper elementary school teacher.  Both of my parents coached after school sports, but I didn’t play any organized sports until I started playing softball in 5th grade because we commuted from Riverside to Orange County every day.  My parents worked in Orange County and my sister and I attended school in Placentia until I was in 6th  Although I didn’t play organized sports, I was very athletic and active.  I remember that I was one of the only girls that the boys would let play football with them in 6th grade.

An Olympian? When I was in 4th grade, Los Angeles was hosting the 1984 Olympics and we had Olympic events at school.  I tried out for and made most of the events.  I remember competing in the long jump, probably because my parents have a picture of it.  It was a great experience and gave me a lot of confidence in myself.  Right before I was to start 7th grade at the junior high where my mom taught, my mom got a new job in Moreno Valley so I started 7th grade at Gage Middle School.

Always Loved Fitness! I didn’t know many kids, but I loved PE!  I learned how to play so many new team sports and I was good at them!  I made All-Stars for my PE period for every sport for two years!  I loved the competitiveness of the program! Although looking back I totally understand how many students would have felt inadequate and disengaged from physical activity.  As a physical educator, I try to remember this and teach life-long fitness rather than just team sports because it can be difficult to find organizations for team sports as an adult and everyone should find a physical activity that they love!

Super Mom… I’ve been married to my husband, Rob, for almost 11 years.  We have two children, Cody, 10, and Caitlin, 7.  I graduated from CSUSB with a degree in Kinesiology.  I earned my Masters’ degree in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education and I’ve been a middle school physical education teacher for 14 years.

What is your motivation to work out?

My motivation to work out is that I want to be the best version of me that I can be at this point in my life. Right after I got married, my husband and I started our family. During my two pregnancies, I didn’t eat a healthy diet, partly because I was craving French fries all of the time!  I didn’t exercise regularly, but I was getting some exercise walking at work. I started working out again about 3 years ago to try and lose some weight for my sister’s wedding.  I was able to lose about 10-15 lbs on my own, but that wasn’t enough for me to be healthy.  Part of my motivation is that I want to be a good example and role model for my children and my students, but most of my motivation comes from me because I don’t want to go back to where I was before.  I’ve worked too hard to come this far and I’m not buying any more clothes in bigger sizes!

How does working out make you feel?

Working out makes me feel normal, like my world is balanced. I love knowing that I’m working really hard and that I’m getting stronger!  I try to stay really focused during our workouts so that I know that I’m working as hard as I can without taking a chance of injuring myself.  I love how Coach pushes us to reach our maximum potential so I know I’m getting a great workout, both physically and mentally!

FB_IMG_14654159589751  Colleen rocking the kettlebell!

What are your goals?

It’s definitely time for me to review my goals…I met my weight loss goal with the Little Black Dress Project in November and I have been able to keep my weight within 5 lbs below that goal. I’d like to lose a little more weight, but I know that I really need to focus on my nutrition and make that a priority if I’m going to make that happen. I am also trying to work on time management to help me achieve better balance in my household.  We are a very busy family, as most families are, and I struggle to get everything done.  It’s definitely time to review my SMART goals!

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

I make sure that I schedule my workouts in advance. When I schedule in advance, I can work around my kids’ schedules. Sometimes, plans change and I’m not able to make it to a class.  Instead of beating myself up because I had to change my schedule, I just make sure that I’m getting in my classes for the week.  It has taken me a long time to realize that sometimes I need to put myself first, and sometimes that means my workouts come first. My family understands that my workouts are important to me and I’ve had talks with my kids about why my workouts are so important to me…so it’s just another day if they have to go to workouts with me.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

If someone is on the fence about joining Village Coach Fitness, I would tell them to give Coach Fatimat a call because there is nothing to lose, except unwanted weight. I love being a part of the Village because we are a great support system to each other. Coach is great at getting to know members and how to best motivate them because she cares about us!  She’ll let me know if I should be using a heavier weight and she’s ready with suggestions to modify the exercise if anyone is having trouble.  If I miss a class or two, Coach will reach out to see if everything is okay. Our Tribe is truly about each member becoming the best that they can be and Coach Fatimat is the reason that I will be a life-long Village Coach Fitness member!

We LOVE you, Colleen and are so grateful to have YOU in our Village Tribe.  Thank you for sharing your story with all of us.  🙂 The Working-Mother-Wife-Teacher Syndrome that make people run in a circle, not a problem for this amazing lady! She’s got them all under control!

We are so excited to share the personal story about this months’ member! We love having her as part of our tribe and we hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit more! Here is our  April 2016 Tribe Member Spotlight: Faith and fitness, committed to both!

Give us a little history about yourself.  Where were you born? Did you play sports growing up?

I was born in Detroit, Michigan.  I moved to California at age one.  I pretty much stayed here except for a short time in Hesperia.  I have two grown sons and three grandchildren.  I will have been married to my wonderful husband for thirty-five years come this May 2.  I was married before for a short time.

I graduated from Ramona High school and went straight into the Riverside Academy of Beauty.  I have loved doing hair for all of my 39 year career.  I have had eight major hand surgeries and I will have my last hand surgery this fall.

Vicki and her husband love outdoor activities and spending time with their granddaughter.

I am a summer girl and I love the heat.  I love all water sports.  I can water ski, Paddle board, Kayak, snorkel, swim, para-sail, zip-line but my favorite is to fish with my hubby.  The water is so peaceful.  I love to travel.  My favorite places have been Israel, Tahiti and Kauai.  We go to Kauai almost every year.  I love crafts and being creative.

What is your motivation to work out?

I attend the Grove Community Church which is where I first heard about Fatimat.  I have two friends who attended her boot camp and I saw results in how they looked and how they felt.  I met Fatimat one evening at The Grove and I went to see her for my fitness consultation and I thought, “This is what I need”.  I started right away.  I could not attend boot camp as I had so many hand disabilities from doing hair for 39 years so I chose personal training.

How does working out make you feel?

Fatimat worked on all my needs and modified my workouts.  Then I started eating clean from her recipes.  I soon felt wonderful and the results were more than I ever expected.  If I cheated and ate bad things, it was okay once in a while but after any length of time I began to feel fatigued and tired and, of course, it showed.  Returning to clean eating gave me my energy back. The old saying that we are what we eat is true.

What are your goals?

My goals are to have the strength I need as I age, to feel stable whenever I walk and be balanced and, of course, to look strong.

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

I have to make time for my fitness workout. I treat my fitness session like I would a Dr. appointment. I work out 3 times a week, and I try to schedule nothing on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings.  This is MY time.

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

If anyone reading this thinks that they can’t or just don’t have the time just remember that you will never have time unless you make time.  One month could forever change your life.  I have been with Fatimat for 3 years and I still love it.  I love to be challenged and the coaches here at Village Coach Fitness are always changing the routine and it is so fun to come and see what I get to do.  With God all things are possible and I keep my faith strong in the Lord.  My life verse is Job 23:10.

Thank you coach Fatimat and coach Vincent for always encouraging me and keeping me healthy.

We are so excited to share the personal story about this months’ member! We love having her as part of our tribe and we hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit more! Here is our  March 2016 Tribe Member Spotlight: Sweet & Strong…Wendi Stukey!

Tell us a little history about yourself. Where were you born? Did you play sports growing up?

I was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and moved several times …. New York, Dallas, Chicago and then settled in California in 1971… I was athletic and played tennis and swam through high school and first 2years of college… I met my kids dad when I was 14 and married at 21… We were together for 21 years before he passed away at 35 so I’ve essentially been a single mom to our 3 children….

What is your motivation to work out?

I had always been in pretty good shape and then got into a rut of not really caring about myself and then saw Coaches 6 week transformation challenge from a friend in 2015… I thought why not? I can do just about anything for 6 weeks and so that started my journey and fueled my motivation because I SAW RESULTS!!!

How does working out make you feel?

I feel accomplished when I complete a workout session!!! I have pushed myself beyond what I thought I could do and discovered that with the right guidance (coach) and nutrition I can become a better me than I thought possible.

What are your goals?

My goal now is to maintain a healthy active life style and continue to firm and strengthen my body… When I started this journey, I couldn’t do even one ‘ man’ push-up and now I can do 12-15 at one time!!!

What do you do to make sure you have time for your workouts?

As a single person, it’s easier for me now to make time for myself so getting my work outs in isn’t too hard for me…and there is such a camaraderie at the village that it’s really like just making time to hang out with friends…I look forward to everyday!!!

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?

If someone is on the fence about working out or joining the village I encourage them to JUST TRY IT!!! I share my story and coach offers so many different trial opportunities that it makes it easy to try without a lengthy contract…. And coach and Vince are the best in the IE… I knew I was in the most excellent care for my health having met Coach…she genuinely cares about each of her athletes as though they r her family… You sue don’t get anything like it at LA Fitness … Thanks for listening…here’s to our health!!!

We LOVE you, Wendi and we are so grateful to have YOU as part of our Village Tribe. Thank you for sharing your story with all of us. 🙂
