August Member Spotlight – Sweet and Strong…. Shawn Dredla

We are so excited to share the personal story about this months’ member! We love having her as part of our tribe and we hope you enjoy getting to know her a little bit more! Here is our August 2016 Tribe Member Spotlight:  Sweet and Strong…. Shawn Dredla!

Give us a little history about yourself.  Where were you born?  Did you play sports growing up?
I was born in Pomona, California and I didn’t move too far from there.  I grew up in Alta Loma (now Rancho Cucamonga) and attended all the schools in the district and graduated from Alta Loma High School. I played softball and was on the high school swim team.  I have been married for 31 years and we have 2 children who have both recently moved away to start their own lives.  I retired from the Corona Police Department 4 years ago after a 31-year career.  I went back to school and got a Masters in Counseling Psychology and am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working at The Grove Counseling Center.

What is your motivation to work out?
I had back surgery in 2003 and I realized that I do everything with my back.  I worked really hard to get back to full duty and needed to make sure that I stayed in shape from then on.  At the Village, I am able to work really hard and modify the exercises when needed.  And Fatimat motivates me at EVERY session!  Also, with my husband and I being retired and still being young, I want to be able to travel and hike, bike, and kayak with ease.

How does working out make you feel?
I feel so good after my morning workouts.  It sets me day for eating healthier knowing that I worked out that morning.  I love my Purium drinks when I get home.  I look forward to them!  Sometimes, well a lot of times, I will be sore the next day after a workout, but it’s a “good” sore.  Using muscles that I haven’t used in a long time.  I know that I am preparing my body for aging.

What do you do to make sure you have time for workouts?
I make it part of my schedule.  I know that it is only a 45-minute workout and what I like the most is that it is always different.  And Fatimat is such a motivator!!

What are your goals?
I want to be healthy and fit.  Even if the scale doesn’t go down, I know that I am making a difference by being active, getting stronger, and eating better.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining the Village?
I would say “do it”.  Everyone at the Village is so supportive of each other.  You see the results in yourself and in others as well.  We all care about each other!

We LOVE you, Shawn and are so grateful to have YOU in our Village Tribe.  Thank you for sharing your story with all of us.
